Umbra is a free watch face for Garmin, published by glyphlabs. Questions go to support@glyphlabshq.com. Write in English or German.
Install Umbra
Open the Connect IQ Store app on your phone, search for Umbra or open the store page, and tap Install. The face is synced to your watch over Bluetooth. On the watch, hold the watch face and pick Umbra from the list.
Change design, colour and layout
On the watch: long-press the face, choose Customize, then pick Design 1 to 3 or go to Custom and set background, colour and layout on their own. Typeface is on the same menu.

Data fields
Four fields sit above the time, four below. Each field can show one of eighteen metrics or be switched off. Fewer active fields give the remaining ones more space. Distance fields follow the unit set on your watch; the label shows the value only.
Always-On
When the display dims, Umbra shows time and date on black and nothing else. This is by design: it keeps the face inside Garmin's always-on limits and protects the display. Raise your wrist to see the full layout.
Numbers look wrong
Steps are grouped as 8'432 by default. You can switch the separator in the settings. Weather and Body Battery come from Garmin and appear once the watch has synced. If a value shows as --, your device does not provide that metric.
Compatible devices
Umbra runs on 48 round AMOLED Garmins with 390, 416, 454 or 466 pixel displays, including Forerunner 70, 165, 170, 265, 570, 965 and 970, Venu 2, 2 Plus, 3, 3S and 4, vívoactive 5 and 6, fēnix 8 AMOLED, fēnix 8 Pro, fēnix 9, fēnix 9 Pro and fēnix E, epix Gen 2 and epix Pro, MARQ Gen 2, MARQ Aviator and MARQ Gen 3, Descent G2 and Mk3, Instinct 3 AMOLED, D2 Air X10, D2 Mach 1 and Mach 2, and Approach S50, S70 and S72. The full list is on the store page under compatible devices. Watches with MIP displays are not supported.
Purchases, subscriptions, accounts
- Umbra is free. There is nothing to purchase or restore.
- There is no subscription.
- There is no glyphlabs account. From version 1.3.0, Umbra reports installs, updates and once a day the app version and device model to glyphlabshq.com, which keeps only counts per day (see the privacy policy). There is nothing about you to delete on our side. Removing the face takes it and the settings stored on the watch off the device; settings you changed in the Garmin Connect app are also kept in your Garmin account, which Garmin manages.
- Future paid faces will be sold through Garmin. Purchases, refunds and restores are handled by Garmin's store.
